DESCRIPTION:
For so long the cutlass has been approached as little more than a shorter version of a sabre. In fact, military manuals of 19th century Britain and America focused solely on sabre as the means to learn cutlass. This class takes the weapon a step further, incorporating not only those military methods, but also close quarter engagements, similar to long knife, using the left hand for blocks, blade assists and disarms. Emphasis will be on combat techniques within a confined space. Masks and jackets will be required for the partnership exercises. Some cutlasses will be provided, but students should bring singlesticks, cutlasses or sabres if they have. |
