DESCRIPTION:
In this class we will examine the one enduring component of every martial art: the human body. This class is intended to be a brief "user's guide" to the body, from how to keep it running smoothly, to developing its awesome capabilities, and ultimately how to use yours to destroy someone else's with the minimum effort. The primary technical concept we will discuss is the power chain: the connection of one part to another that allows the power of the hips and legs to be available to the hands. We will briefly discuss the major joints, and how to keep them in working order, then discover lines of strength and weakness that lie within any given position. We will then use that knowledge to apply our lines of strength to our opponent's lines of weakness. Last year we finished with an in-depth look at the knee joint: how to strengthen it and how to fix it. This year we will do the same for the elbow and wrist. This is particularly aimed at students who already have problems in that area, and will also teach those in good forearm health how to maintain that happy state. Students will need: a body; any shape, size or condition will do. |
