DESCRIPTION:
This class shall employ the traditional quarterstaff in studying and affecting changes in measure during combat. Various techniques shall be studied and practiced covering the 4 different measures of quarterstaff play and brought together to give the student the opportunity to control measure and technical flexibility at all times. No previous experience with quarterstaff is required but may be helpful. Students are encouraged to bring their own staffs if possible, being of sturdy wood of at least 1 1/4inch (ideally 1 1/2 - 1 3/4inch) in diameter and 7 foot overall in length. A limited number of staffs shall be available for use on the day. Additional necessary equipment - Fencing mask, gloves (pair of, fencing or thicker), fencing jacket or gambeson, ability to face any man. Optional extras - knee pads |
