Dueling Sword of Maestro Masaniello Parise
INSTRUCTOR: M. Sean Hayes

ROOM: Wisner/Featherstone
DESCRIPTION:

Gear: Standard fencing kit (mask, jacket, glove, fencing knickers or sturdy, loose pants) and weapon. Italian or French épée preferred; foils acceptable; Italian épée blade mounted in Italian foil guard is ideal. Please, no orthopedic handles!

Description: An essential class for the rapier fencer! We will examine the techniques of Masaniello Parise, first director of the famous Scoula Magistrale of 19th century Italy. Instruction is based on Masaniello Parise's 1884 text Trattato teorico-pratico della scherma di spada e sciabola, and his Scherma da terrano of 1904. The workshop will emphasize conservative dueling techniques selected from the repertoire of the classical Italian school, not sporting techniques, and will take a tactical approach.

Bring a water bottle and a towel to wipe off sweat.
