(Smallsword vs. Backsword)

INSTRUCTOR:  Maestro Paul Macdonald

 

DESCRIPTION:

 

This class shall examine the strategic considerations and technical actions of two of the 18th century’s most prominent weapons, Smallsword and Backsword, studying the specifics of each weapon’s tactical methods when employed in earnest use, one against the other.

 

The unique martial considerations of each weapon form in its own right shall be studies, then facing the backsword against the smallsword and detailing the most effective measures and counter measures useful for either swordsman when engaged in an encounter with sharps.

 

Useful attire for this class:  Fencing jacket, mask, gloves, long coat.

Useful weapons for this class:  Backsword (singlestick or blunted steel), Smallsword (French or Italian foil would serve as acceptable substitutes).
