An Introduction to Camillo Agrippa's Trattato Di Scienzia d'Arme, con un Dialogo di Filosofia

ROOM:  GVT Gymnasium

INSTRUCTOR:  Gary Chelak

DESCRIPTION:

This class seeks to provide an introduction to the system of combat put forth in print by Agrippa in early 1553.

We will explore the tactical & biomechanical reasons he gave for his then-unconventional postures, as well as his more commonly used actions of attack and defence. While this is primarily a hands-on class, discussion will include pedagogical information regarding the structure of Agrippa's text, and the geometric figures present in so many of the accompanying illustrations. Those also attending the Marozzo Assaulti class will find this system contrasts the spada of the Bolognese.

We will be making cuts & thrusts against each other – please bring a single-hand practice sword suitable for training (Darkwood Armory, Gus Trim, or DelTin flexible sidesword blades recommended), gloves, 12k mask, protection for the upper torso/arms, notepad and pen/pencil.
