Fundamental Principles of Knife Combat

ROOM: Dart Auditorium

DESCRIPTION:

Assisted by: Tim Anderson

This course will examine various types of knives and daggers and will examine the basic fundamental principles of knife combat.

These principles include:
Methods of gripping the weapon
Cutting and Thrusting
Footwork and Movement
Timing and Distancing
Fighting Theory
Targeting
Grapples and use of the off-hand

Use of the knife and similar items for modern self-defense will also be addressed.

This course will establish a strong base on which to build further studies of shorter weapons, and will focus on both historical and modern knife combatives.

Participants should bring some form of protective eyewear (or fencing mask). Padded protection for the hand and forearm is also recommended.
