Master Class:
Tempo as a Verb:
The Rapier Play of Giganti

ROOM: GVT 3900

INSTRUCTOR: Gary Chelak

DESCRIPTION:

To manipulate fencing time is to manipulate the fight itself.

While this can include feints, constraints, invitations and the like, to use time as the weapon requires more than understanding the mechanics at work. That knowledge plus mastery over one's own actions become the stable base which facilitates manipulating the adversary's tempo. Unexpectedly lengthening or shortening their tempo can shatter the adversary's otherwise quality fight. Accomplishing this once he or she is already in motion dramatically limits their opportunity to respond. Plays & technique from Giganti will serve as our lens to build & refine this skill.

We will be lunging against each other. Please bring a training rapier (del tin-style blade suggested, schlagers work ok, lighter construction not suggested), training dagger, gloves, 12k mask, protection for the upper torso, notepad & pen/pencil. Throat protection suggested.
