Master Class:
The Duelling Shield

ROOM: GVT 3900

INSTRUCTORS: M. Paul Macdonald

DESCRIPTION:

This is a World Premier Class!
This will be the first opportunity to take a practical class in the Duelling Shield at a WMA event!

Duelling shields will be provided for this introduction to the fight. We will begin with a short history of the weapon and the judicial duel. After understanding the context of this duel we will examine the guards and attacks, working on basic and compound attacks.

Once we have worked on the duelling shield alone, we can then examine how it was used in conjunction with the sword and other weapons (such as the mace) to understand how this changes the fight.

Participants should wear a leather, skin tight suit that they are sewn into prior to the class. If you do not have this, a fencing mask, jacket, gloves and groin protection will do. Upper body strength conditioning in the months prior to the workshop is recommended.
