Warmups / Stretching for Western Martial Arts

ROOM: GVT Gymnasium
INSTRUCTOR: Liam Fox

DESCRIPTION:

In this class we will be performing a series of stretches that will address all of the neglected muscle groups we need to sword fight effectively. We will be stretching from heels to ears! Be prepared to stretch for most of the class. Wear comfortable clothes.

Very few of us are able to do Western Martial Arts as a profession, the rest of us work for a living which impacts our bodies. Our muscles can uniquely adapt to whatever we spend the most of our time doing. Unfortunately this can cause misalignment, postural changes, tightness and pain in the muscles we need to use the most.

This class is appropriate for any fitness level and personal instruction will be provided. Proper stretching will prevent injuries, increase our ability to perform, and enhance our sword fighting techniques. Stretching as a lifelong practice will decrease the negative effects on your bodies and enable you to keep fighting into a ripe old age!

There will be time for questions and personal consultation with Liam at the end of class.

Liam will also be facilitating a morning stretch each day from 8:30-9:00 a.m. called “How Not to Pass Out When You Touch Your Toes” or “How to Stretch With a Hangover”!

Liam is also available for private massage therapy and facilitated stretching sessions during the convention.
