Sponsored by Detroit Marriott Pontiac at Centerpoint
Master Class
Cane Self Defence
INSTRUCTOR: Maestro Ramón Martínez

ROOM: Salon B
DESCRIPTION:

One of the last civilian weapons that can still be carried “legally” in many but not all places is the ordinary walking cane or stick. While the cane is not a sword, fencing theory has historically been applied to the use of this implement in a variety of "Street fighting" situations when facing armed, unarmed and multiple attackers.

This simplified system of Cane fighting based on Italian, French, Spanish and German sabre technique is especially suited for fencers but can easily be learned by martial artists from any school, system or style.

The system presented will include long range as well as close quarter combat techniques. Beginning with facing an adversary equally armed, this class will proceed to facing would be attackers armed with a variety of weapons.

Participants should arrive prepared with fencing masks, jackets, padded gloves for both hands, groin and chest protectors, gorgets, elbow and shin guards, ordinary walking canes or sticks (3.5 foot rattan or ash sticks three quarters of an inch in diameter are acceptable).
