Knife Fighting in the Close Quarter Range

DESCRIPTION:

This class will focus on the use of the knife in close-quarter combat.  We will examine some of the historical forms of knife fighting of Western societies and how they may be applied for modern self defense.  We will also be examine modern forms of knife combatives and knife/counter knife techniques.

The first section of the class will examine fundamental principles that will be built on for the remainder of the course including:

 

Gripping & drawing the weapon

Footwork & Movement

Targeting

Fighting Theory

Using both solo and partner drills, we will examine utilizing the knife in a variety of scenarios, moving from Medium, Close, and Grappling ranges.

The second half of the class will focus on more advanced concepts and application of techniques.

Depending on the progression of the class, we may do some sparring near the end.

Students are required to bring some form of protective eyewear/fencing mask.  Hand and forearm protection are strongly recommended.

Training knives will be provided but students may bring their own.  Any live bladed weapon must be safely covered at all times.
