Introduction to Russian Sambo
INSTRUCTORS: Ken Pfrenger

ROOM: TBA
DESCRIPTION:

Sambo, an acronym of the Russian term SAMozashchita Bez Oruzhiya meaning self-defense without weapons, is an early 20th century martial art which draws from several eastern and western martial traditions.

Originally a military art, it has evolved into several distinct branches including two sport versions. We will be looking at sport
sambo as well as some combat sambo applications.

Be prepared to hit the ground many many times as we work through some of the basics of this versitile martial art. It might not be a bad idea to have taken Tony Wolf's class on falling on Thursday but it is not mandatory as we will be trying to stick with the lower impact techniques.

This is a jacket style of wrestling so you will need a sturdy jacket of some sort to take part in this class fully. A karate gi jacket or a Judo gi jacket is fine, a belt is good to have as well but we can get by without it. Even a sturdy jean jacket or other type of jacket will work as well. I will have a few extra loaner jackets for those who do not have one.
