Sword and Buckler
INSTRUCTOR: Brian McIlmoyle

ROOM: TBA
DESCRIPTION:

The MS 1.33, gives us access to the earliest known recording of Medieval Swordsmanship. The sword and buckler was arguably the most common of self defense weapons ( that was not a knife or dagger ) throughout the European Medieval period and beyond until the sword lost all relevance. Indeed the sword and buckler was eventually replaced by the modern most common self defense weapon, the handgun.

This class will focus on the foundational attributes of the system as illustrated in MS 1.33. Principal wards and remedies to basic attacks will be examined as well as the foundational plays that provide keys to this often misunderstood Manuscript.

Participants must have a Steel or aluminium cruciform guard sword ( complex hilts are not appropriate )  and a round buckler In addition to a fencing mask. Lightly padded gloves and forearm protection will make the class more comfortable.

This class is appropriate for people with no experience in sword and buckler play, Prior fencing experience would be an asset.
