Dwight C. McLemore
Director, The School of Two Swords
With over 18 years
experience in martial arts, self-defense, and gymnastics, 'Mac' is certified in
Kung-Fu, Expert Level Knife with the Scientific Fighting Congress, and holds
1st Dan in Kendo. He earned a Master of Education from Northeast Louisiana
State University and has broad teaching experience in the fields of physical
fitness, gymnastics, and safety & occupational health. Prior to retiring
from active competition, he placed first in the U.S. Wushu Kung-Fu Eastern
Region and fourth in national competition in 1997.
He is a retired combat arms
officer with extensive knowledge of combat operations and live fire exercises.
He continues to work for the U.S. Army as an operational safety manager with
Training and Doctrine command at Fort Monroe, Virginia. Dwight is the founder
and director of the The School of Two Swords in Yorktown, Virginia which
provides instruction in a variety of edged weapons and close quarter combat,
from the 18th century to modern times. From 1999 through 2000, Dwight's
students regularly won the National & Regional Weapons Sparring Competition
in the USWKA in Baltimore, Maryland.
In the field of Western Martial Arts, Dwight's first self-published edition of “Paradoxes
of a Deadly Myth” received world-wide recognition as a premier publication in the
field of Bowie and dagger fighting. This text was selected by Paladin Press for publication in
2002.
Dwight's School of Two
Swords has collaborated with Lauric Press to produce the video “Bowie & Big
Knife Dueling” in 2001, which is rapidly becoming a best seller. In conjunction
with Pricketts Fort, West Virginia, annual seminars are held as part of The
School of the Longhunter in the use of 18th century Tomahawk and Longknife
fighting.
Dwight is a member of the advisory council for the American Heritage Fighting
Arts Association and a member of the Association of Historical Fencing. He is
in the process of developing new training support packages on the tomahawk,
longknife, and Spanish Navaja.
Dwight is married with two grown daughters and one Yorkshire Terrier named
'Toy'.
