DESCRIPTION:
The
basic foundations of Capo Ferro's system of Italian rapier fencing
will be covered. "Fencing is the art of defending oneself with
the sword"; therefore the defensive elements of the interplay
will be stressed.
The importance of the terza quardia and how to handle the sword in preparation for defense will be demonstrated. Misura and tempo will be stressed as this places the fencer in the best position in order to defend as well as to offend.
"The defense is the second part of the management of the sword which instructs us in the use of the sword for our defense. It has two parts, of which the first is the defensive, or the guardia, as we will call it. The other is the offensive." Capo Ferro
